What is Viagra?
Viagra is a drug that contains sildenafil citrate which is prescribed to treat impotence (erectile dysfunction) in men. This medication is obtainable in oral tablets (100mg, 50mg, and 25mg).
How does this Viagra work?
The active ingredient in Viagra, sildenafil citrate, stimulates blood flow and relaxes muscles in the penis. This will help you to get an erection so that you can engage in sexual intercourse. This drug is available with a doctor's prescription only. Viagra is not to be administered to children, adolescents or women.
What is the suggested dose?
In most cases one dose is 50mg. This should be taken with water approximately one hour prior to any form of sexual stimulation. In certain cases, it may be necessary to take the dose 4 hours prior to sexual stimulation. The maximum dose of Viagra is 100mg, and the minimum dose is 25mg. Your doctor will decide if your dose needs adjusting. Do not make any adjustments without speaking with your doctor.
A missed dose
This does not apply because Viagra is used when needed.
Other information and precautions
If your doctor has advised you not to have sexual intercourse for health reasons, you cannot use Viagra. If you have a history of heart problems, your doctor will decide if Viagra is safe for you or not.
If you have had a recent stroke or if you had problems with your heart rate, you must use Viagra with caution.
Use Viagra with caution if you have low blood pressure or high blood pressure.
Use Viagra with caution if you have unstable angina, heart disease, cardiac failure, or retinitis pigmentosa (a hereditary eye condition).
If you have taken a dose of Viagra and your erection lasts for 4 or more hours, immediately speak to your doctor. A prolonged erection can be dangerous and can cause permanent impotence.
Use Viagra with caution if you are using an alpha-blocker to treat your high blood pressure.
Be sure to supply your doctor with comprehensive details about your medical history. Tell your doctor the names of all medications you are using - including vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal remedies and any over-the-counter medicines.
What are the side effects of Viagra?
Viagra has a good record of safety. This drug is not likely to cause any severe side effects. When you first begin treatment, you may experience some mildly uncomfortable symptoms. These include diarrhea, vision problems, runny or blocked nose, dizziness, urinary tract infection, rash, stomach irritations, or facial flushing. These are usually temporary - however if any of the above symptoms continue, you must report to your doctor.
Overdose with Viagra
An overdose of Viagra is not expected to be fatal. But if you have taken an overdose, tell your doctor as you might have some adverse symptoms.
How should Viagra be stored?
Viagra should be kept in a safe place out of the reach of children. This medication should be stored in a dry, cool place. Do not expose Viagra to heat, sunlight or humidity.
